BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:
Lia Rothstein has BA and MFA degrees from Boston University. She has been a professional photographer and artist for over 40 years and has taught photography and mixed media classes throughout New England and internationally. Lia was awarded artist residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, the Baer Art Center in Hofsos, Iceland, and the Brattleboro Vermont Museum and Art Center.
She has exhibited her photographic and mixed media work in galleries and museums across the US and her work is in numerous collections, including the Polaroid International Exhibition Photography Collection, and the collections of John Hancock and the Radisson Group.
Rothstein’s encaustic and cold wax paintings are featured in the book, “Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts and Conversations” by Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin and other publications. Lia is a member of New England Wax, a regional juried organization, the national and regional branches of the Surface Design Association, and the International Sculpture Center.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work is increasingly dedicated to using natural materials whenever possible to express my ideas and concerns about the current state of our environment and global climate change.
Regardless of the materials used,
fragility/strength
fragmentation/connectedness
unviability/sustainability
and transience/permanence
are persistent themes.
